Crock pot chicken barbeque is one of my favorite recipes. It’s easy, it’s tasty and it’s super simple to make. Plus, it’s ready in just a few hours so it doesn’t take up much time during your weeknight dinner prep. Enjoy!
Ingredients
The ingredients for this recipe are pretty easy to find, and they’re all pretty healthy. You can stock up on these items at your local grocery store or farmers’ market:
- 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 6)
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (we used Sweet Baby Ray’s)
1 cup ketchup
You can make your own ketchup or buy it at the store. Homemade ketchup is made from tomatoes, vinegar and spices. It’s used as a dipping sauce, as a topping for french fries and as a flavoring for soups and other foods.
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a great ingredient to use in barbeque recipes. It’s a good source of potassium, calcium and vitamin C which can improve your health. Apple cider vinegar has been used as a digestive aid for thousands of years. It can also be used in salad dressings or marinades to add flavor.
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Worcestershire sauce is a savory and pungent sauce made from fermented anchovies, molasses, vinegar, and seasonings. It’s sometimes referred to as “the secret ingredient” because it adds so much flavor to any dish without being overpowering. In this recipe we use 3 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce; however if you want more of that delicious BBQ flavor feel free to add more!
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons honey
Honey is a natural sweetener, and it’s good for you. It contains antioxidants, which can help reduce inflammation and prevent disease. In addition, honey contains minerals like calcium and iron that your body needs to stay healthy.

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
Ginger is a rhizome that can be used in cooking and medicine. It’s known for its anti-nausea properties, which make it an effective treatment for nausea and vomiting. Ginger can also help with motion sickness, indigestion, colds, flu symptoms and arthritis pain.*

2 teaspoons salt, divided use
2 teaspoons salt, divided use
Salt is a preservative and it helps to tenderize the meat. You can use any type of salt you want, but if you’ve got kosher or sea salt on hand then go ahead and use that!
1 teaspoon black pepper, divided use
Pepper is a spice that’s used in many recipes. It comes from the pepper plant, and it can be ground into powder or used whole.
Pepper is great for adding flavor to your food, but you may want to use it sparingly because it has quite a bit of heat! In this recipe, we only need 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper so that’s what we will use.
5 lbs. boneless skinless chicken thighs or breasts, trimmed and cut into chunks (about 6-8 pieces per person)
